Supporting a brand in delivering their message to the world is a task that I am proud to be trusted with. Throughout the last decade, I have been fortunate to work alongside artists, sole proprietors, Fortune 500 companies, schools, non-profits and everything in between to capture and tell their stories. During the process, I am often privileged with experiences that resonate and leave with me a lasting impression. My time working with CLiCK Inc. has been no exception. The mission which drives this commercial kitchen is powerful, moving and of utmost importance.
On the surface, CLiCK is a commercially licensed kitchen. Farmers and small food-based businesses can take advantage of their beautiful space in Willimantic, CT to cook and prepare their products. For example, a caterer without access to a licensed cooking space can work in CLiCK's kitchen and use their tools to prepare for an event. A vegetable farmer can preserve and prepare their crops for distribution. This, however, only begins to tell CLiCK’s story. Per their website, CLiCK’s mission reads as follows: “Grow, Cook, Share: Recognizing the historical and institutional injustices of the American food system, CLiCK aims to grow a locally-based, just, healthy, and sustainable food economy.” In other words, they does not simply provide a cooking space for an individual or small business. They support farmers and “culinary entrepreneurs” in building their businesses, with a focus on those who have been negatively impacted by the capitalist influence on US food growth and sales. To document the entire progression from farm to kitchen to customer was a privilege; the juxtaposition of soil and pristine cooking space powerful and gratifying. Having spent time with CLiCK's vendors and witnessing the care and passion put into every step of the process, I have a renewed appreciation for from where and whom our food comes. CLiCK embodies the idea of “improving the health and vitality of our local community.” Working alongside their members and documenting the passion that goes into growing and preparing their food has been truly inspiring. It has given me a new perspective on the importance of where our food comes from.
